Volunteers

Silverhill Primary School welcomes applications from volunteers who would like to help out in school. As a parent, grandparent or a member of the local community who has a little time to spare you may be able to help give our young people a helping hand. Volunteering in school offers a fantastic source of work experience for those considering a career in teaching or working with young people and over the years we have supported a number of people in gaining their teaching qualifications.

There are so many ways you can help in school such as:

 - reading with the children

 - supporting individual pupils with their work

 - playing maths games

 - enhancing pupil learning through your own life experiences

 - developing sporting skill

Volunteer - Mrs Keeling

Mrs Keeling decided to help in school when her son started in Foundation Stage. She had the time available and really feels valued and useful. She helps by listening to the children read, practise their Letters and Sounds and help out with their art work. She really feels it is an eye opener to see what the children learn at such a young age.

If you are interested in volunteering in our school please complete the Volunteer Application Form and include details of any relevant skills and experience you can bring to the role. Please indicate in your application the length of time you are considering volunteering for (e.g. 1 term / whole school year) and your preferred choice of day/time)

All volunteers will receive guidance on how to keep themselves and the children safe in school. Our Volunteer Coordinators are Mrs Kemp and Miss Nevin and can be contacted through the school office.

Volunteers are subject to a DBS disclosure as detailed below:

'All volunteers that have unsupervised frequent or intensive contact with children must obtain an enhanced disclosure. This contact can be as little as one hour a week, four days or more in a month, or overnight such as a one-off residential trip. Volunteers undertaking other one-off contact are not eligible for Disclosures, such as helping on sports day, and adequate supervision must be in place'.
