Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is an allocation of money to individual students who are considered to be at a disadvantage because of their home financial position or start in life. Children who receive Free School Meals now or in the past 6 years as well as 'Looked After Children' are allocated additional funding to ensure they make good academic progress and that their social needs are met.

At Silverhill Primary School we ensure that all children are treated equally and fairly. The Pupil Premium is used to support individuals as well as groups of vulnerable children so that they are given every opportunity to reach their full potential.

The school uses its allocation in the following ways;

  • To increase staffing ratios to provide 1-1 and small group tuition
  • To contribute to the funding of the Learning Mentor to support families and children with attendance and social and emotional issues
  • To contribute to the funding of the Inclusion Manager to coordinate all aspects of children with additional needs
  • To fund the services of speech and language and physical intervention specialists who provide training adults and support for children with additional needs
  • To fund interpreters for deaf parents to ensure they are fully supported in the education of their children
  • To fund peripatetic music tuition
  • To subsidise residential and other visits including summer schools and revision programmes
  • To fund training opportunities for staff so that they have the necessary skills to support our vulnerable children

Impact

Overall children who are allocated a Pupil Premium make progress in line with National Expectations. This progress is regularly monitored and reviewed to ensure that the additional funding is having a positive impact.
