International Links

As a school we have been working with GED (Global Education Derby) with 9 other Derbyshire schools to explore ways of developing our eco school projects through a global theme. We have formed links with schools in two different countries South Africa and India and we are very excited about the opportunities these links bring to our school.

Silverhill is a member of the cluster of Derby schools linked as part of the UKIEI project for 2007 -2010 with 6 schools in Mumbai. In February 2008 Mrs Nash and Mrs Mistry went to visit the schools in India and have learned a huge amount from this extremely valuable cultural experience. We have altered our curriculum in order to maximise on the benefits of the link and shared our experiences with parents and members of the community at a highly successful Indian evening. We are looking forward to hosting teachers and pupils from the schools in India in September this year.

We are also fortunate to be linked with Ashley Primary School Durban South Africa. One of the teachers from the school came to visit us in June and the pupils and parents were really motivated and engaged meeting her and hearing about life in South Africa. We will be working with the school on a joint energy reduction project which the pupils are really excited about as well as many other ecological projects as the link is based upon Eco Schools. One of our staff is to visit Ashley Primary School in August and is thoroughly looking forward to the culture exchange and developing her own understanding of global issues that then can be shared with our school community.

We have applied for our full International Schools Award and have been asked to present to a Conference in Derby City in September on the value and impact of our international links. from September the children will be formulating their own classroom charters.
