Here is a brief introduction from some of our key governors:Chair of Govenors - Claire Hunter

Chair of Govenors - Claire Hunter

My name is Claire Hunter and I am the current Chair of Governors here at Silverhill Primary. I am a Co-opted governor who has two boys, one at the school and one who has recently left to go to Secondary school. My day job is as a Change and Implementation Manager specialising in staff development for the Department of Work and Pensions. I am passionate about providing a learning environment where children feel safe and happy and are empowered to perform at their very best academically but also to perform confidently in the outside world in which they will become global citizens.

The link governor helps to co-ordinate the training and development of the governors. An average day will find me driving a desk in the Learning & Performance department at Experian in Nottingham.  I look after a team of people that administer our Learning Management System, build eLearning and look after our classroom based courses. I've always been interested in education, so when a charity came to work looking for people to volunteer to become governors, it seemed like the right thing to do.  I chose a primary school near my home as my wife and I were planning a family - my son is now attending Silverhill. I love everything about the school the staff manage a very fine line of achieving good results whilst still giving the students a well rounded education. We get a big picture overview of the school from Mrs Nash, but because I now work in Nottingham, I don't manage to get to the school as often as I'd like, but I make sure I get there during school time at least once a term.

Co-opted Governor - Jason Coupland

I first became a governor at Silverhill seven years ago when my children started to attend the school. Recently I started to work at the school as part of the administration team and you will find me in the school office sorting out the school's finances. I really enjoy being part of the governance team as I get the chance to help develop and implement the activities at the school. Now that I work here I have a much greater understanding of how the school operates on a daily basis. I also work with a network of colleagues from other Derby City schools to share ideas and initiatives. With over 400 pupils to support there is always something new to be done and no two days are ever the same.

I have two sons who attend Silverhill. I work full time at the University of Derby as Head of Knowledge Transfer; enabling companies to work with the University on innovation and collaborative Research and Development projects. I believe that parents have a strong and central role to play in the education of their children, as a Governor I believe I can best fulfil this role and actively contribute to the school. Through being a Governor I have witnessed how passionate and dedicated the staff are and I feel privileged to be able to support them in this capacity.

Co-opted Governor - Sima Ali Syed

Hi, I am a Co-opted Governor at Silverhill and my passion for children's education and learning stemmed from having my own 3 children and teaching them the value of education. I work full time at the University of Derby and was given this governance opportunity to explore - education is an area that I have a great passion for. I believe a child's development can help to transform and shape their lives and prepare them for higher education and their career. I want to assist in child development and aid the development of learning from a young age. I found it extremely rewarding to see my own children satisfied in their learning and discovering new concepts at home and at school, which I believe would encourage them through their educational and personal life and hope I can make a difference to others.
