A message from Claire Hunter, Chair of the Governing Board

On behalf of the Governing Board, welcome to Silverhill Primary School!

Our Governing Board is made up of 12 people, all actively dedicated to ensuring excellent outcomes for the children that attend Silverhill Primary School.  As you will see from this website, our school is a successful and happy place, where everyone is an active learner.  The atmosphere is positive, encouraging and stimulating; we balance academic focus with broader social, physical and creative activity.

The Governing Board is made up from parents, people from the community and staff at the school.  School governors make collective decisions as part of the Governing Board, the main function of which is to conduct the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement. Governors make important decisions on how the school is and will be run, but are not involved in the day to day operational business of the school -- this is the work of the leadership team and the staff.

To give you a brief overview the three core strategic functions of the Governing Board are as follows:

To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction, to set out the vision for the school and its broad ambitions.
To hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school, its pupils and staff.
To oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent.

In terms of structure, the governors organise themselves into two key committees, each with specific focus:

 - Finance

 - Health and Safety (including Safeguarding & Premises)

Other committees are formed as necessary from the Governing Board e.g. Appeals & Complaints

If you would like to know more about the elected and appointed volunteers that make up our Governing Body please refer to the Meet the Governors and Responsibilities pages which give further information.

The governors are supported by Sharon Gratton who is our Clerk to Governors and is the initial contact point for any governance queries. She can be contacted on the main school office number (01332) 511138 or email

If you would like to get in touch with me please do so through school office email address marked for the attention of Claire Hunter or contact the school on the above number.
