Learning a foreign language and finding out about other cultures will deepen children's understanding of the world. At Silverhill we teach French in KS2 and build progressively, year on year, so children are extending their vocabulary, reading and writing skills in this language.  We aim to ensure understanding and response to spoken and written language and encourage children to speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity. This is developed through weekly teaching sessions and everyday tasks being instructed in French. Frequently used vocabulary is displayed in classrooms and around school too. We encourage children to ask questions, continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation through the use of media and IT resources. We also hold several French theme days throughout the year when children can experience French culture through food, traditions and celebrations, geography and history of the country and modern lifestyle in France.
